Today’s Storyline
The Washington Capitals will face the Toronto Maple Leafs for the second time in less than a week tonight at Verizon Center.

Mike Ribeiro and Wojtek Wolski have combined to score 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists) in 37 games against the Maple Leafs in their careers. Ribeiro has contributed 24 of those points in 28 career games vs. Toronto (his highest total against any Eastern Conference team) while Wolski has added nine points in nine games, including four assists in four games last season.

Ribeiro on a roll – Mike Ribeiro scored a goal and added an assist against Pittsburgh on Sunday, giving him 10 points this season. He leads Washington in assists and points and has recorded four multi-point games this season, ranking him tied for sixth in the league in multi-point performances (as of Monday). He tallied 13 multi-point games last season.

Ovechkin vs. Toronto – Alex Ovechkin has tallied 43 points (24 goals, 19 assists) in 28 career games against Toronto. In 14 of those 28 games Ovechkin has recorded two or more points. He has recorded at least one point in all but five of his career games against the Maple Leafs. His 43 points are the most in his career against any Northeast Division opponent.

Going Green – Mike Green has skated an average of 26:50 per game this season, ranking ninth in the league (as of Monday), and has led the Capitals in ice time in each of the team’s first nine games. He currently ranks tied for fifth among defensemen in the league in shots on goal (24).


Toronto trend – The Capitals are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games against Toronto, and have gone 5-0-1 in their last six home games against the Maple Leafs. 

Canadian club – The Capitals are 12-5-2 in their last 19 games versus teams from north of the border. Washington has outscored its Canadian opponents 53-41 and pitched four shutouts during that span.
