The Washington Capitals will practice today at 11:30 a.m. at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.
The Capitals took a 1-0 series lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarterfinal series against New York last night, thanks to a 3-1 victory. With the win the Capitals are now 23-19 vs. the Rangers in postseason play (14-7 on home ice).
Since 2006, teams that have won Game 1 of the first round are 38-18 (.679) in those series. Washington is now 22-15 overall in playoff Game 1’s and 15-7 when starting a series at home. The Capitals have won two of the last three Game 1’s vs. New York.
Alex Ovechkin scored his 31st career playoff goal, setting a Capitals franchise record for playoff goals. He entered play last night tied with Peter Bondra.
