Kettler Capitals Iceplex • Arlington, Virginia

July 8-13, 2013

The Washington Capitals will host the 2013 Prospect Development Camp from July 8-13 at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.

Capitals development camp is an annual week-long summer session with on- and off-ice workouts designed to help Capitals prospects improve their games and allow the Capitals to evaluate their progress. This is the seventh straight year that the camp is being held at Kettler Capitals Iceplex; past development camps have been held in Odenton, Md., and Hershey, Pa.

All on-ice sessions, including the four intrasquad games, are free and open to the public.

Attendees include Capitals prospects who are under contract and recent Capitals draft picks who have not been signed yet. In addition, several undrafted and free agent amateur players will be in attendance. The full roster of players, including invitees, will be available on the first day of camp (July 8).

The Capitals will host Fan Fest on Saturday, July 13. In addition to the scrimmage, Fan Fest will feature the team’s annual equipment sale and autograph sessions with Capitals defenseman Steven Oleksy and other Capitals prospects as well as a special free open skate.

Media information – Head coach Adam Oates and players will be made available to the media following the final on-ice session of each day (approximate times listed to the right). Players not in the group that is on the ice for the final session will be brought to the interview area upon request. Due to space constraints, the Capitals locker room is closed to the media for the duration of camp.

Please make player requests to a member of the Capitals’ media relations staff.

Quick studies – Two players who attended last summer’s development camp ended up playing for the Capitals in 2012-13. Cameron Schilling (one game) and Tom Wilson (three playoff games) each made their NHL debuts with Washington last season. Those two and four others –Barry Almeida, Stanislav Galiev, Nate Schmidt and T.J. Syner– appeared in games for the Hershey Bears of the AHL. Eight players from last summer’s development camp played for the 2013 Kelly Cup-winning Reading Royals, Washington’s ECHL affiliate: Almeida, Brandon Anderson, David Civitarese, Galiev, Sergey Kostenko, Syner, David Vallorani and Scott Wietecha.

Age differential – Similar to an NHL roster, there is some age disparity between those attending camp this week. Recently drafted Brian Pinho (born May 11, 1995) is the youngest roster player attending camp while Patrick Wey (born March 21, 1990) is the oldest.
