Capitals rookie Connor Carrick scored his first NHL goal last night, becoming the fifth player in franchise history to score his first NHL goal in the home opener. The last Capitals player to score his first career NHL goal during the home opener was Alex Ovechkin on Oct. 5, 2005 against Columbus.
