Capitals Recall Wey from Hershey

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have recalled defenseman Patrick Wey from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Wey, 22, has played in three games with the Capitals this season, registering two assists. The 6’3”, 212-pound defenseman made his NHL debut on Dec. 7 against Nashville and earned his first NHL point with an assist on Feb. 6 against Winnipeg. Wey appeared in 28 games with Hershey this season, registering six points (one goal, five assists) and 26 penalty minutes. He began the season with the Reading Royals (ECHL), tallying three assists in eight games.

Wey spent four seasons at Boston College from 2009-13, helping the Eagles win two NCAA national championships (2010, 2012). The Pittsburgh native was drafted by Washington in the fourth round, 115th overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
