The Washington Capitals face the Dallas Stars on Tuesday in the first of seven games in the month of April. Washington will play three games at home this month (DAL, CHI and TB) and four games on the road (NJ, NYI, STL and CAR). Last season, the Capitals finished the month of April with an 11-1-1 record, marking the best record in the NHL that month. April 2013 also marked the most wins and points (23) Washington has recorded in one month in franchise history. Alex Ovechkin scored 14 goals in 13 games last April, marking the most goals in the month in NHL history. Ovechkin has recorded 67 points (36g, 31a) in 48 games in April in his career, Nicklas Backstrom has tallied 45 points (8g, 37a) in 35 career games in the month and Branden Holtby has posted an 11-1-0 record in his career in April with a 2.13 goals-against average and a .937 save percentage.

Brouwer Power – Troy Brouwer scored two goals on Sunday against Nashville, marking his fourth multi-goal game of the season. Brouwer has scored a career-high 23 goals this season, breaking his previous high of 22 goals set during the 2009-10 season. In addition, Brouwer has recorded 40 points this season, tying his career high established during the 2009-10 season. The Vancouver native has tallied eight points in his last seven games (3/16-3/30: 5g, 3a) and has scored a team-high 13 goals in the Capitals' 20 games since the beginning of February. The 6’3”, 218-pound right wing ranks tied for fifth in the NHL in power-play goals (12), second among Washington skaters in goals (23) and first on the team in hits (202).
Green Plays No. 500 – Mike Green played in his 500th NHL/Capitals game on Sunday against Nashville, earning an assist and skating in a career-high 34:08 of ice time. Sunday marked the second time this season and the 32nd time in Green’s career he has registered 30:00 or more of ice time in a game. Green is the 10th defenseman in Capitals history to play 500 games for the franchise, joining Calle Johansson, Rod Langway, Kevin Hatcher, Sergei Gonchar, Brendan Witt, Sylvain Cote, Scott Stevens, Ken Klee and Joe Reekie. The Calgary native ranks fourth in franchise history in goals by a defenseman (103), sixth in assists (212) and sixth in points (315).
Point Taken – Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom scored a power-play goal and added two assists on Sunday against Nashville, marking his sixth three-point game of the season and the 30th three-point game of his career. Backstrom has earned nine points in his last eight games (3/14-3/30: 1g, 8a) and tallied 48 points in his last 47 games (12/7-3/30: 8g, 40a). The Gavle, Sweden, native ranks first in the NHL in power-play assists (37) and power-play points (42) and third in the league in assists (59). Backstrom’s 59 assists this season mark his fourth career 50-assist season and the most assists he has earned in a season since he recorded a career-high 68 assists in 2009-10. Since Backstrom entered the NHL in 2007-08, only three players have collected more assists (Henrik Sedin, Joe Thornton, Martin St. Louis).
Caps Connections – Capitals defenseman John Erskine played for the Stars from 2001-06. The 6’4”, 221-pound defenseman registered four points (2g, 2a) and 237 penalty minutes in 107 games with Dallas.
Seeing Stars – Mike Green has earned five assists in five career games against the Stars and Mikhail Grabovski has registered four points (1g, 3a) in four games against Dallas.
