The NHL announced its annual end-of-season awards this past weekend, with Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin earning the top honor as the winner of the 2012-13 Hart Trophy, awarded "to the player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team."

Ovechkin Wins Third Hart Trophy

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin won the 2012-13 Hart Memorial Trophy, awarded "to the player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team," the National Hockey League announced today. This marks the third time Ovechkin has been named the League’s Most Valuable Player.

The Washington Capitals ECHL affiliate, the Reading Royals, won the Eastern Conference championship on Saturday, defeating Cincinnati 3-1 in Game 5 of the best-of-seven series. With the win the Royals captured the E.A. ‘Bud’ Gingher Memorial Trophy, as the Eastern Conference Playoff Champions, and will make their first Kelly Cup final appearance in franchise history.
